Tragedies in the Americas: Karmapa’s message

September 3, 2019

Following recent events in the Americas, Thaye Dorje, His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa, shares the following message:

Dear dharma friends

In the last few days there have been a series of tragedies in the Americas: Hurricane Dorian continues to cause catastrophic damage and loss of life in the Bahamas; at least 25 people were killed in a boat fire in California; and seven people died in the latest mass shooting in Texas.

May we respond to this great suffering with great compassion.

As Buddhists, our practice is none other than compassion and wisdom. In these times, and in all times, it is our responsibility to be examples of compassion and wisdom to help end suffering in our world.

With prayers

Thaye Dorje
