Three days of pujas begin for Karmapa’s birthday

The Karmapa International Buddhist Institute (KIBI), the headquarters of Thaye Dorje, His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa, begins three days of pujas today, to mark the auspicious occasion of Karmapa’s birthday.

On 6 May 2019, Karmapa will turn 36 years of age in this life.

The KIBI sangha will perform the Mahakalaja puja and ganachakra (tsok offering); recite the complete text of Prajnaparamita; and perform a life release of fish and birds to mark the occasion of Karmapa’s birthday.

In harmony with KIBI’s charitable purpose, and Karmapa’s activities, there will also be a visit to an association in Delhi for those who are blind and visually impaired. This visit will include the granting of scholarships to some students.

On the morning of Karmapa’s birthday, there will be a mandala offering at KIBI for Karmapa’s long life. In accordance with Karmapa’s wishes, there will be other traditional ceremonies, including the grand ganachakra puja, and distribution of tsok.
