Here is a transcript of the letter:

Dear dharma friends

It is with great sadness that I share the news of the passing of Master Shiah Jing Shan.

Master Shiah was a devoted follower and sponsor of my predecessor Rangjung Rigpe Dorje, His Holiness the 16th Karmapa, and was also an enthusiastic supporter of my activities.

Master Shiah was a dharma teacher in his own right, with a significant following of students in China, where he was based. Master Shiah was not only a master of dharma, but also a master of painting and Feng Shui. During my trip to Nepal last year, Master Shiah kindly offered me a painting of Avalokiteśvara, a Bodhisattva who embodies the compassion of all Buddhas. Master Shiah also embodied this quality.

Therefore, perhaps above all, Master Shiah was a master of loving kindness, wisdom and compassion.

For anyone that was in the presence of Master Shiah, for anyone who basked in the light and warmth of his smile, knew immediately that this was a great being indeed.

Please join me in praying for all of his loved ones and students.

With compassion

Thaye Dorje
