Dear dharma friends

Today we celebrate the noble land of India.

The 73rd Indian Independence Day is a moment to celebrate the spiritual wealth and beauty of this nation, and her 1.3 billion children.

We remember the sacrifices and efforts of all of those who came before us. We remember that the freedoms that we enjoy today were gained by the faith and hard work of those who came before us. We remember that our daily choices, our speech, our actions, all lay the table of virtues for those who follow us. May we honour our predecessors and prepare a feast of wisdom and compassion for our children!

We live in challenging times. In such times, we often look to those with a spiritual or moral insight, to better understand and navigate the changes we are facing. There is no nation on earth with a greater spiritual wealth, or Inner Wealth, than India.

For millennia, India’s diverse religious and spiritual traditions have been at the heart of human activity. Therefore, in these challenging and changing times, India is better placed than any nation to offer hope and spiritual support for all sentient beings in our world.

May the nation of India and all its children continue to thrive.

With compassion

Thaye Dorje
