Karmapa arrives at Dhagpo Sheydrub Ling

October 29, 2025

Thaye Dorje, His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa, arrived at Kathmandu airport late in the evening of the 26th of October, and was offered a warm welcome by the gathered Rinpoches, monks, nuns, and lay practitioners.

The motorcade then went straight to the monastery of Dhagpo Sheydrub Ling, where the Mahaparinirvana pujas in honour of the universally beloved Maniwa Sherab Gyaltsen Rinpoche, or simply “Lama Rinpoche” had been held for the last several weeks, ever since the arrival of the Kudung (Wylie: sku gdung, English: sacred body) at his main seat.

Upon his arrival at Dhagpo Sheydrub Ling, Karmapa went straight to the shrine hall, where the Kudung lay in state, in order to pay his respects to the late Lama Rinpoche and do a private meditation session by his side.

On the 28th of October, Karmapa joined Rinpoches and monastic Sanghas from across the Himalayas for the practice of Restoring Tantric Commitments (Tib. sngags gso).
