Malaysia tour concludes in Kuching and Johor Bahru

July 3, 2026

From 9 to 16 June, Thaye Dorje, His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa, visited Kuching, where he was warmly welcomed by two Dharma centres for a week of teachings, blessings and joyful gatherings.

The visit began at Kuching Bodhi Path Society, where Karmapa bestowed the empowerments of Milarepa and White Four-Armed Chenrezig on the gathered practitioners, and granted private audiences. The programme concluded with a Mandala Offering, Chenrezig practice, the Kangyur Dedication Ceremony, a short Dharma teaching, and the blessing of sacred objects and the relics of His Holiness Shamar Rinpoche.

Karmapa then continued to Kuching Karma Kagyu Dharma Society. Alongside public audiences and meetings with devotees, he presided over the Red Chenrezig Jang Chog Puja and bestowed the empowerment of Manjushri, encouraging practitioners to cultivate wisdom and compassion together.

From Kuching, Karmapa travelled to Johor Bahru, the final stop of his 2026 Malaysia tour. At Karma Kagyu Dharma Society Johor Bahru, under the guidance of Venerable Shangpa Rinpoche, he consecrated the society’s new centre and blessed the entire premises.

The following day, Marpa Kagyu Buddhist Society Johor Bahru, under the spiritual guidance of Venerable Lodro Rinpoche, celebrated the opening of its new centre. During the ceremony, Karmapa bestowed the reading transmission (Tib: lung) of the Mahamudra Aspiration Prayer by the 3rd Karmapa, and concluded the event by offering his blessings to everyone present.

Karmapa’s visit to Kuching and Johor Bahru brought his 2026 Malaysia tour to an inspirational conclusion. The programmes offered precious opportunities for practitioners to receive teachings, empowerments and blessings, inspiring many to deepen their understanding and practice of the Dharma. Filled with gratitude and rejoicing, everyone expressed the heartfelt wish to welcome Karmapa back to Malaysia again soon.
