Alstonville – Northern Rivers Diamond Way Buddhist Centre

The Northern Rivers Diamond Way Buddhist Centre was formed after a Phowa course with Lama Ole Nydahl was held in the region in 1997. Following this, a group of friends were meeting in various locations around Byron Bay to meditate together. In January 1999 Lama Ole gave Mahamudra teachings in Byron Bay and as a result a permanent home for the centre was sought, and found in Alstonville. In the following years Lama Ole and his late wife Hannah visited and stayed in the centre a number of times. Following the addition of a purpose-built gompa, the centre was inaugurated in February 2004 and given the name "Karma Gyurme Ling" meaning "unshakeable place". Lama Ole and Hannah maintained regular visits, giving teachings and meditating in the gompa. The the local group has continued to meet weekly for meditation and at other times for personal practice sessions and visiting Diamond Way teachers.
