June 5, 2007: H.H. Gyalwa Karmapa Visits Altmühle in Worms, Germany

On the 5th of June His Holiness was greeted by hundreds of people waiting for his arrival at the Altmuhle (old mill) center. Located in the middle Rhine region of Germany, this Diamond Way Center was given to Lama Ole Nydahl and was in the process of renovation as recently as the day before His Holiness’ arrival. Called the Old Mill for obvious reasons, this site even boasts a history of a once standing castle at the time of the 1st Karmapa. Now refurbished to accommodate hundreds of Buddhist practitioners and retreatants, His Holiness was there on a stop through his Tour of Europe to bless the newly developed center.

Once there, His Holiness Trinley Thaye Dorje the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa was given a tour of the grounds as he blessed each room on the property. Afterwards, Karmapa was invited into the freshly renovated meeting hall to enjoy a small evening snack with the people gathered there. There was a short presentation to show the progress and efforts made for this center. His Holiness gave his praises to the people involved with the growth and development of the Dharma Center and offered some encouraging words and advice for the future.

“This will benefit countless beings.” His Holiness said about the Altmuhle center. “Do your best to let the teachings of the Buddha shine throughout the world.” After a recitation of the Dewachenmo prayer of Amitabha his Holiness gave blessings and received offerings from the people assembled for his visit.
