the 17th
Karmapa celebrates Sonam Loshar at Kaffer

During his teaching sessions His Holiness Karmapa will comment on the great bodhisattva Samantabhadra’s aspiration prayer for excellent conduct, which is the main prayer accumulated during the Kagyu Monlam. Making such aspirations in the sacred place of Bodhgaya where the historical Buddha Shakyamuni attained enlightenment, in the presence of realised bodhisattvas, accumulates immense merit and helps to pacify both natural and man-made disasters and obstacles. It benefits not only the practitioners taking part in the Monlam but all those connected to them, and ultimately all sentient beings.

HH the 17th Karmapa visits Nagpur and Chandrapur

55 years ago, on October 14th 1956, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, known to the people of India as the “Father of the Constitution”, organized a public ceremony for himself and his supporters in Nagpur where he took refuge in the “Three Jewels” and accepted the “Five Precepts” of the Buddhist tradition. After formally completing his own conversion, he then proceeded to convert some 500,000 of his supporters, many of who were considered “Untouchables” in the Hindu “Caste System” like himself.

17th Karmapa offers prayers for the earthquake
                victims

On September 18th, 2011 at approximately 6.10pm, the people of Sikkim, Nepal, Bhutan and scattered regions throughout India were shaken from their evening routines by nature’s fury, when an unprecedented 6.8 magnitude earthquake struck the district headquarters of North Sikkim in Mangan.
Though occasional tremors can be felt from time to time in these areas due to the relative youth of the Himalayan range, which continue to grow by about 2 inches every year, a seismic event on this scale has not been experienced by these people of the hills in many generations.

HH 17th Karmapa
is received by Beru Khyentse Rinpoche There was a very special reason for the Karmapa's visit to the monastic hermitage: during his stay there he received the entire transmission of the dam ngag dzö (gdams ngag mdzod) from Pewar Rinpoche, one of Tibet’s most revered lamas today.

Pewar Rinpoche is considered a great master of both the Sakya and Nyingma traditions of Tibetan Buddhism, and is the abbot of Pewar Monastery in Tibet.
