On November 17th, 1976 Karmapa arrived in New York for his first visit to the
USA. On June 20th, 1977 he visited Paris and then continued his extensive travels
visiting Paris, Langwedel, Norway, and Sweden. Near Oslo, Karmapa jumped
nimbly from rock to rock at the beach despite having so much sugar in his blood
that a few drops could easily have sweetened one's tea. The doctors could not
understand why he was not in a coma. All in all, it was wonderful how "holy" Karmapa
was in the true meaning of the word. He was "whole" and "fully functioning."
His next visits were to Kopenhagen, Rødby, Aarhus, the Netherlands, Witten,
Königstein, Berlin, Vienna, Scheibbs, München, Winterthur, Zürich, Genf, France,
Nizza, St. Tropez, Dordogne, Aix, Montepellier, Plaige, Bordeaux, Antwerpen, London,
Wales, and Athens. On November 28th, 1979, Karmapa Rangjung Rigpa Dorje
himself started the construction work on the new meditation center south-east
of New Delhi, India, where today the "Karmapa International Buddhist Institute"
(KIBI) is located. In May 1980 he again visited the West, stopping for
lectures and ceremonies in London, New York, Woodstock, San Francisco, and then
Boulder in June. . | |
